Energy Efficient Maryland Names Business Champions of Energy Efficiency
Annapolis, Md. - November 28, 2018 – Three Maryland businesses have won Maryland’s first-ever “Champions of Energy Efficiency” award for their efforts to advance landmark energy efficiency policies in the state. Energy Efficient Maryland, a new coalition dedicated to lowering energy costs for Maryland residents through energy efficiency, honored the following businesses for their leadership:
Devere Insulation Home Improvement (Glen Burnie), Maryland’s largest independent insulation contractor;
Minnick’s ecobeco (Rockville), a whole home energy efficiency, comfort and indoor air quality contractor that has served over 50,000 homes in the DC and Baltimore metro region, and;
Complete Home Solutions (Lothian) a family-owned company providing insulation and duct sealing services, home energy audits, and energy code inspections
The Champions of Energy Efficiency award is given to local Maryland businesses who volunteer their time to advocate for strong energy efficiency policies at the local and state level.
“These three companies have gone above and beyond to educate policymakers on how sound energy efficiency policies can lower electric bills, improve public health, and create good-paying jobs across Maryland,” said Joe Normandy, a member of Energy Efficient Maryland and Executive Director of Maryland Building Performance Association. “
The three businesses honored played leadership roles urging state lawmakers to enact legislation that strengthened EmPOWER Maryland, the state’s signature energy efficiency program. The Maryland General Assembly subsequently enacted SB 184 in 2017, which will reduce peak energy demand, create more than 68,000 jobs over the next decade, and save ratepayers $11.7 billion due to reduced energy consumption.
EmPOWER Maryland is a statewide program that helps homeowners, renters, and businesses save energy and money. The program provides incentives and technical assistance for improving insulation, sealing air leaks, and installing more efficient appliances in homes and buildings. The upgrades are funded by a monthly surcharge on customer utility bills that averages less than $6 per month. Learn more at https://energyefficientmaryland.org/empower-maryland.
